Our langoustines are wild caught around the Western Isles and off the west coast of Scotland. They are landed and processed on the Isle of Barra at Barratlantic. The Barratlantic factory was originally founded by John King Senior in 1974 so we are very happy to still be working closely with them almost 30 years on. The langoustines caught in the Outer Hebrides have the most phenomenal flavour and quality of all langoustines caught in the UK.
When the weather isn’t playing ball, we still find a way. We are happy to be in business with Scotprime in Ayrshire who produce wild caught west coast langoustines of exceptional quality.
Langoustines tend to stay live for around 12 hours out of water. Customer orders are landed and packaged on the evening before the ferry leaves for mainland. We meet in the central belt and the product will be with customers within 48 hours.
Despite our langoustines not being live, they retain their freshness for 5-6 days from when they are caught. They are packed with ice and kept refrigerated which retains their quality. We recommend keeping them on ice and in their packaging until you plan to cook them. Once langoustines have been cooked, they can be kept for 2-3 days refrigerated.
Langoustines are often known as Dublin Bay prawns and are a close relative to lobsters. They are much smaller than lobster but are the most highly prized shellfish for their outstanding flavour. The meat is found in the tail and also in the claws of our larger sizes.
XL langoustines impress our customers as they are rare to come by. They have a great amount of meat and we recommend 4-5 per portion. We highly recommend trying our XL.
Large langoustines are a good all-rounder getting a decent amount of meat in the tail and claws. We recommend around 6-7 langoustines per portion.
Medium langoustines are perfect if you are serving as part of a platter. They hold the same depth in flavour but with much smaller claws. Ideal if you are having a variety of seafood. We recommend 8 – 10 per portion.
Small langoustines are perfect for feeding a bigger group of people who aren’t fussed about digging into the claws. We recommend 10 – 14 for per portion
Langoustine tails are ideal for a customer who just wants the meaty part. They can be deshelled with the meat and can be used in a variety of dishes such as pasta and paella.
